According to LaChance, the original person with the dream was Ama Karikari. She worked with people to bring a multicultural sorority to campus. Last year she started spreading the word about her goal. La Chance joined because, "it was bigger than myself, something that I wanted to be a part of."
In order to achieve their ultimate goal of becoming a sorority, the girls needed to be a recognized organization on campus, which is why WSSD was founded. They spent the majority of last year writing their constitution to get approval from the Rockhurst Student Senate.
They came together once a week to work on the constitution, finishing in May of last year. During the first semester of the new school year, the constitution was the main concern of the women of WSSD as they worked together to edit and cut down their constitution. At the end of last semester, it was approved by Student Senate, Matt Quick, Liz Brent and Father Kinerk.
Now that WSSD was officially established, the girls could begin working on their goal of affiliating with a multicultural sorority. The members held a final vote to decide which sorority that they wished to affiliate with and Delta Xi Phi was the sorority that the members decided best fit their beliefs and goals.
"Our group is all so different we wanted the bond, and something that was beyond just social service," said La Chance of their decision.
Once the decision about which sorority to affiliate with had been made, WSSD contacted the expansion chair of DXP. Interviews with DXP were held February 2nd. There were individual and group interviews for each prospective member. They were accepted on the same day and are the Omicron Colony of Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority Inc. They are a colony right now, meaning that they are working their way to becoming a full chapter. As of this moment, they are in a pledging process. At the end of May, this small group will officially become a full chapter.
Right now they meet every week to learn about there sorority. Just like the other sororities they have to learn about their group and its history and they do activities that emphasize their pillars. There are five pillars: service friendship, women's higher education, multicultural awareness and sisterhood.
"It is pretty time consuming but I feel it is pretty well worth it," LaChance said.
