To answer the question posed by Ms. Green: no, college student are not too apathetic to protest; they are just too connected. Why stand in the cold, rain, heat, etc., when a simple blog posting can be just as effective? The idea of a "sit-in" or "protest" has merely evolved and taken a new shape in our 21-century post-modern world. While the musical nostalgia of the 1960s has been rediscovered via political albums from Neil Young, Pearl Jam, and Ben Harper, the protest has moved beyond nostalgia into technology. Compared to the college students of the 1960s, we are too connected and have too much information on our hands. Who do I believe, CNN or Fox, Carlson or Steward, the Republicans or Democrats? There is almost too much information to be found, which has lead to polarization this country has not know for years, leaving college students drowning in information. Too much information has lead to the evolution of the protest, as blogs have replaced cardboard signs. The protest isn't dead, it is just online.
