Another year of hitting the books means another year for the Hawks to hit the playing field. Now that the Olympics are over, can we get excited to see what our Rockhurst athletes have to offer this year? Clean slate for all the teams, which means they are ready to get busy to represent Rockhurst University. We have soccer, golf, volleyball, intramurals, and more to look forward to this '08 fall.

Tony Tocco, who has coached here for 37 years, is the head coach of the men's soccer team. His teams have compiled a 550-149-48 record. Tocco is first among active intercollegiate coaches and third on the all-time coaching list. He and the team and the Hawks are ready to keep putting up numbers in the winning column this year. Seasn opener is September 5 at 7:00 vs. Colorado Springs.

Joe Madden commets, "I wish I could be out there, but I know the rest of the guys are going to get the job done."

The women's soccer team is coached by Greg Herdick. He is going into his tenth season and has previously had eight winning seasons. He holds an overall record of 91-60-9 with a .597 winning percentage. The women's next game is vs. Nebraska-Omaha at 1:00 in Omaha.

The hard wood floor brings us our fierce women's volleyball players headed by Tracy Rietzke. Tracy ranks first among all-time NCAA Division II women's volleyball coached with a winning percentage of .840, also second with 956 total victories. The Hawks have proudly posted a 326-64 record and have played in 6 NCAA national tournaments. They start doing what they do best August 29-30 in Omaha, NE.

The golfers are ready to hit the links. Coach Carl Capra coaches the men's and women's team which both finished in the top four at the 2005 Heartland Conference Tournament in K.C. Two women and two men from Rockhurst have finished in the top 15 individual at the conference tournament. Bryce Revling said, "I am so stoked for this upcoming year and am excited to see what we have to offer this time around." The women tee off at the Maverick Roundup August 30-31 in St. James, MN. The men will be playing at the Missouri Intercollegiate Sept. 2-3 at The Club at Porto Cima GC in Sunrise, MO.

Good luck athletes, hope the Hawks have a great year!
