OCH community could find a new addition after winter break - security systems

The recent security issues have left some OCH students wondering if home security systems might be an answer, and Residence Life is looking into the idea.
The first bid that came in exploring this option was just not feasible.
As Sean Grube, director of Residence Life stated, "The company has an affiliation with Rockhurst, but unfortunately the price of their high end equipment does not make it feasible for Rockhurst to even consider installing the system."
This initial company was the one that set up the system for the PRM building. Since the time that the house was set-up with security, however, the technology offered by the company has upgraded significantly.
With this upgrade, prices have also increased. In fact, the prices coming in for the bid were quadruple the amount that it cost to install PRM equipment per house.
This has not deterred the search. Currently, Res Life is waiting for two more bids to be submitted. The costs that Rockhurst is anticipating are an initial installation fee and then additional fees for monitoring.
Overall, Grube emphasized, "It is our hope that we can find a system that will provide peace of mind to our students and be economical during times of financial turmoil."
