Senior Adam Bales

Four year collegiate tennis career? Check. GLVC championship? Check. Acceptance into medical school? Check.

Senior Adam Bales has accomplished much in his time at Rockhurst. A staple on the tennis team for the past four years, 

Bales has played  a key role in the team’s successes.

This season, Bales has gone 15-5 in his matches and 6-1 in conference play. Currently on a four-match winning streak, he and his teammates hope to ride their winning ways into Florida.

Who had the better tennis haircut:  late 80s - early 90s Andre Agassi or mid 70s John McEnroe?

Agassi definitely had the better hair.  He also had the wild wardrobe to go along with it.

Why does tennis use terms like “love” and “deuce”?  Does it think it’s better than other sports?

They have French origins, and I’m guessing just like the French, tennis does think it is better than all other sports.  It might not get much respect, but it is the best.

How is the Rockhurst Men’s Tennis team doing this year?

We have been having a very successful year.  We have been nationally ranked all year and won the GLVC conference for the first time.  We will also be hosting regionals and hopefully make it to Florida for nationals and be one of the top 16 teams in the country!  Its been a good senior season.

Better tennis movie:  Match Point or Wimbledon?

Neither, “Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach.”  Instant classic.  Our team movie for the year.

Clay, grass, or hard court... What’s your favorite and why?

I’ve really only played on hard courts, so I’m going to have to stick to what I know.  I would love to play on some real clay and grass someday though.

Every time I go out onto a tennis court, I wind up hitting all of the balls over the fence and getting frustrated.  Do you have any advice for me?

You could always find a court with a higher fence.  Keep your racket face closed when hitting the ball.  I can’t give away all my secrets, that will cost ya the standard $25/hr.
