The baseball team hit a bit of a rough stretch recently, but finished the season strong. Following a home win over Washburn 12-9 on April 21, the team split a doubleheader at MO Western 4-5 and 5-2 on April 22. Then they lost at home to MO S&T on April 24 5-14, split a doubleheader with MO Western the next day 9-3 and 5-7, and finally dropped the final game of the series 6-7 on April 26.
The team then lost its final road game at Centeral MO 13-19. Having lost five out of their last seven games, the team turned it around for the last games of the season and won both games of a home doubleheader 4-3 and 9-6 over MO Southern on May 3. They finished the regular season 35-19 and 17-11 in the GLVC for 2nd place in the West.
The team now heads to the GLVC tournament in Sauget, IL. Ryan Porter leads the team with 8 homers and 45 RBI and Tyler Knust has a 17 game hitting streak. If they win the GLVC tournament, they will head to regionals or they may get an automatic bid.
The softball team ended their season on a down note. After winning both games of a home doubleheader over Drury 2-1 and 3-2 on April 22, they lost the rest of their games due to a lack of offense.
They were swept in consecutive road doubleheaders at UMSL 1-2 and 0-1 on April 25 and at MO S&T 0-4 and 0-2 on April 26. Their chance at redemption was then taken away as their final home game against Southwest Baptist was cancelled.
They finished the season 19-21 and 9-15 in the GLVC, which failed to qualify them for the GLVC tournament.
Leslie Furdek led the team in batting average .346, runs 16, and RBI 17. Pitcher Heather Robertson led the team with a 1.96 ERA.
The women’s golf team placed 5th in the GLVC conference tournament on April 25-26.
