TimeBox was an important contributor to Rockhurst's successful celebration of its 75th birthday in 1985-1986. What is TimeBox? TimeBox is a stainless steel chest 6 feet tall, 3 feet deep, and 2 feet wide constructed on campus by a member of Rockhurst's physical plant staff.

Into it were placed more than 137 memorabilia of Rockhurst's first 75 years of service in education. The memorabilia were contributed by students, faculty, staff, administrators,

graduates, regents and other friends, and members of the Board of Trustees of the then College.

In 1986 TimeBox was sealed in a niche behind a brick wall in the Massman Hall lobby. A bronze plaque was placed on the wall opposite the Thomas More cafeteria entrance informing

any passer-by that TimeBox will be opened in 2010 and more memorabilia added to celebrate the University's 100th birthday.

A sample of the more than 137 memorabilia "treasures" preserved in TimeBox 75 will be on display in the Massman Gallery for the February 3rd official opening of centennial events.

Here are some of those "treasures":

A copy of the 1910 original Charter of Rockhurst College and of the 1951 Amended Charter of Rockhurst University

The shovel used to break ground for Conway Hall and other campus buildings

Freshman beanie worn by deceased Registrar Paul Arend, alumnus '42

Documented history and photos of the renowned Rockhurst Cannon (now residing in the Liberty Memorial National World War I Museum)

Pins and paraphernalia of Rockhurst honor societies, fraternities, clubs, student organizations

Research College of Nursing student cap and pin

Dozens of photos of the early and developing campus, of athletic teams (remember football?), of cityscapes from long ago, and of many more etceteras.

TimeBox appeal today? TimeBox now needs your help, Students, Faculty, Staff, Administrators. The Centennial Committee for TimeBox seeks and will gratefully welcome items that recall the past 25 years of Rockhurst's living history, 1985-2010. When TimeBox is reopened in 25 years (2035), those who have contributed items will take pride in their 2010 donation and will be recognized and honored by fellow and sister grads, by faculty and staff, by parents and friends, and by students of 2035.

Please contact one of the members of the Centennial Committee for TimeBox: Student Representative Erin Donovan '10; Student Representative Laurel McMindes '12; Alumnus John Mulvihill '82, Chair; Staff Member and Parent and Alumna Nina Marsh '73; or Prof. Louis Oldani, S.J., Secretary.
