Men's Basketball
Students returned from Christmas break to see two men's basketball wins. This past Thursday, the team defeated conference rival Illinois-Springfield 68-58. The game remained close throughout the first half with just a three-point separation at half. Aaron Hill contributed fifteen second half points to ultimately lift the Hawks to a big home win.
Saturday brought another GLVC match-up against 10th ranked Quincy and it proved to be just as competitive. Hill stood out again, leading the team with 24 points but was followed closely by Aaron Morrisey who posted 14. The Hawks earned a tough conference win, 74-70. At 13-7 overall and 8-3 in conference play the Hawks rank second among the west in the GLVC, just behind Drury. If they can stay consistent Rockhurst has a good chance of hosting a first round conference game.
Women's Basketball
The women's basketball team started the new semester off with a big win over Illinois-Springfield last Thursday, racking up 72 points in a 72-60 home win. The lady Hawks dominated the floor in both halves. Bri Edwards and Ali Fromm led the Hawks with 15 points apiece.
Coming off a vital conference win, the women's basketball team took 23rd ranked Quincy Saturday who, unfortunately, proved to be too much for the Hawks. Quincy led by 21 at half time and hung on for an 81-55 win. Meghan Hurley led the Hawks with 12 points. At 6-12 overall and 2-9 in the conference, the Lady Hawks rank last in the tough Western division of the GLVC, although many of their losses have come in very tight games.
RU Athletes Excel in Classroom
The Rockhurst athletes earned a combined 3.30 GPA last semester, ranking high among national averages. All of the Hawks teams finished with a GPA above 3.0, with eleven teams achieving about 3.30. The women's tennis team had the highest of RU teams with an outstanding 3.62.
